Grace before sleep
Not against witch and warlock , ghoul and sprite ,
We pray Thee to protect our home tonight :
Faith proofs these walls against each evil charm
That those who sleep within may fear no harm .
Not against fire and tempest , plague and sword ,
We pray Thee to defend our dwelling , Lord :
Ready at need such perils to endure ,
In Thy good providence we rest secure .
From pride , from envy , from the spirit’s rust ,
From greed of food or gain, from wrath , from lust ,
We pray Thee , Lord our souls to cleanse and keep :
Then all within these walls may safely sleep .
for October 1952
Green willow , drooping to caress the stream ,
Shade me within the curtain of your hair ,
Let me for one sweet hour ,
Secure , unhurried as a dream ,
Moor here .
Green willow , when I last sought refuge here ,
Not then alone , I knew the joy of love :
Forbidden long to live ,
My joy , with her I held most dear ,
Took leave .
Green willow, soon I too must take my leave ,
Never too soon that day , come when it will :
To you , and lovers all
Who seek your shade to laugh or grieve ,

[ On same sheet as Lindabrides , lady of all delight ]
Go to , I will love ;
Come , love without sorrow ,
Passionate , sensitive , generous love — hey ho!
I will love so ,
For I may hate tomorrow .
Go to , I will hate ;
Come , hate without sorrow ,
Passionate , sensitive , generous hate — hey ho!
I will hate so ,
For I may love tomorrow .
